Quality of Mind
Not long ago, I struggled to write newsletters for you. I went through several months of writer's block. As I did my best to deliver valuable content, I tossed out everything I wrote, even missing a deadline or two. Tapping into my creativity eluded me, and I couldn’t get it back.
I had a lot going on with a lot on my mind.
I was so busy that I didn’t even realize I had let some simple lifestyle habits slip away.
A friend mentioned a program many artists have taken called The Artists Way by Julia Cameron. You don’t need to be an artist to participate, as people from many walks of life have achieved exceptional results that enriched the quality of one's life and, hence, mind.
Desperate to end my writer’s block streak, I instantly purchased the course. Within a few days, I received Julia's book and the accompanying journal, The Morning Pages. Upon waking each day, I began writing the suggested three pages of anything on my mind. This journaling was not intended to be shared with anyone else or as a platform for writing my articles. I couldn’t believe how many thoughts I had racing around. It cleared my mind. I had to ask myself, how could I tap into my creativity when there was no space in my mind to create? My mind was overloaded, with thoughts jumping around like a ping-pong ball.
Additionally, as suggested, I took myself out on an “artist date” each week. This was fun, and I enjoyed new and different activities. I compared it to when I go on vacations and come back with new and fresh ideas. These simple outings gave me time to unplug from my daily routines. I felt revived from my mini adventures. It would be easy to say I don’t have the time to do this, but the reality was that by taking the time for myself, I showed up better for my work and life.
This program worked for me. It cured my writer's block and reignited my creativity.
There are many ways to enhance the quality of one's mind, whether through journaling, meditation, learning new things, or simply taking a break to see new horizons.
If you take the time for this, as I did, you may just find that improving the quality of your mind naturally improves the quality of your life, too -
