Energy Check
Not long ago, I came across this sign that is posted at the entrance of Indiana University Health:
“Please take responsibility for the energy you bring into this space. Your words matter. Our patients matter, and our teams matter. Take a slow, deep breath and make sure your energy is in check before entering this space. Thank you.”
I had to smile as I thought how brilliant it was to have someone pause and reflect momentarily on the energy they were carrying and shift it if necessary.
And being a center of health is a place where you certainly want an environment free of dis-ease. I admire how they value their patients and teams, setting this standard before you even walk in the door.
Coincidentally, at the entrance to my studio, I have a doormat that warmly greets clients with the message, "We are so happy you are here." Inside, a sign reads, "This is our Happy Place. "These simple yet powerful words create an inviting atmosphere, signaling to my clients that they can leave their stressors and worries outside. Once inside, it’s their time to unplug and focus on their health and well-being.
Think of all the times, however, when you have seen someone so worked up that they unloaded on poor service personnel who had nothing to do with their issue. Or when you arrive at a social event and sit next to someone who spends the evening complaining about everything.
What did that feel like?
As stated in the article, Human Energy is Contagious—who’s vibes are you catching? Susan Kohn Taylor states that “a person’s energy is a combination of their past, their mindset, their dominant thoughts, and their perception of the world. Sometimes, that energy is easily felt; other times, it manifests subtly and subconsciously. This negative energy can impact everyone in that space, as our energies are often contagious.”
Negativity breeds more negativity.
I have always considered our energy like a radio frequency broadcasting out into the world. Our energy introduces itself before anything else. You may have noticed this when you are around someone broadcasting a positive vibe; you naturally feel more at ease and may even be magnetized to them if your energies match. On the other hand, being around someone broadcasting bad vibes leaves an unsettling emotion and tends to drive you away.
Before opening the door to my training sessions, meetings, or outings with friends, I am always conscious of the energy I bring.
I pause, take a deep breath, and ask myself if my mind is clear and my heart pure.
Then, I reflect on how I want this experience to go, as I know my energy is essential to the outcome.
My energy is in check, and I am grounded.
I want to encourage you to do the same.
It's inspiring to see how the power of positive energy can transform an entire environment.
We all deserve this, and it’s a form of love we can share.
Love breeds more love.
Given the choice, what energy do you want to broadcast?
My best to your health and well-being,
Yvette
